Hey...the names Jarrod. I'm a 22 year old student and menswear fashion marketing assistant in good 'ole Austin, Texas. I blog about menswear, style, food, graphic design, typography and my two cats, Cholula and Santosha. I also post regularly in 'My Awkward Tribulations' journal series about coming out as a new gay man. Hope you enjoy.

Target Winter Ad 2006

Agency: PMH Advertising

(Miss Target’s old advertising…stylish, dreamy…instead of campy and cheesy. Needless to say, Goldfrapp will be making a comeback on my X-Mas 2012 Playlist.)

That awkward moment when a client has no idea what direction they’d like their marketing material to go in and thus multiple drafts must be created to get a better understanding of their company aesthetic. (These are two of ten created for this client demonstrating different possible directions to go in.)
That more awkward moment when you’re preparing to show this client the preliminary graphic design work, and the client is your mother. (In which case, I have no problem creating ten preliminary drafts…just for you mom…just for you :)
In my spare time between class and internships, I’ve been working on some basic designs for my mother’s new student leadership program. (Background information: she’s a doctor (PhD), retired superintendent, soon-to-be author and current doctoral professor). Because of the broad audience that will be viewing this companies logo, I’ve been dabbling with different designs to get her outlook on the best branding approach for her company. Typeface and color choices aren’t finalized but figured I’d share a couple…

I have spent the past three months with these crazy fun fools. JoJo, Vicki and I make up the marketing team for Atom Willis (a men’s leather jacket line). (Also picture is Dixie the dog)
Unfortunately, Vicki will be leaving in a couple of days to head back to China. Replacing her will be a new marketing member, and I can only hope that he will be as badass as Vicki. I mean, since meeting Vicki, I have never been closer to dying, while still having so much fun along the way. Thanks to Vicki, I have gotten into my first bar fight, leading to my first black eye, I’ve dealt with potential public intoxication charges, been kicked out of a couple of business in Austin, and been in more fights than one should in that amount of time.
Well, we are going to spend her last days celebrating the good ‘old American way…getting crazy drunk! Let the celebrations begin!

The first day of work went well!! I’m very excited to be working with a great menswear marketing team (although this picture looks otherwise). So, this pic was captured of us (the new marketing team) at our lowest point…we had been brainstorming marketing strategies for hours. Either way, you’ll be hearing more about Atom Willis in the near future!

First Day of Work!!!

Alright, so I’ve been MIA from Tumblr for a couple of days, but I figured I’d jot down a quick update before heading off to my first day at a new job. A couple of weeks ago, I interviewed for a marketing assistant position at an up-and-coming menswear designer here in Austin. I didn’t hear anything back within a week and thought I had lost out on the opportunity. Well, this past weekend, I received an e-mail informing me that I and two others had been selected. To keep a long story short (too late), we met with the menswear designer and the two others hired for the marketing team, and I have to say, I am really lucky to be partnered with two badasses. (This was discovered after the three of us headed out for drinks to get to know each other.) Welp… I suppose I should be heading off…wish me luck on my first day as a menswear fashion marketing assistant!
